Reception has really enjoyed their learning during cycle 2 and have had lots of fun in doing so.

The children are becoming more confident in all aspects of their learning and during Cycle 3, we will be developing their knowledge and understanding of the world with the arrival of some very special eggs in the forthcoming weeks.  The children will learn about the lifecycle of a chick leading onto Easter Celebrations and different ways that people celebrate around the world.

In recent weeks, we have been discussing healthy eating and we will be inviting parents and carers to come and enjoy a healthy breakfast with your child. Keep your eyes peeled for an invitation!

Our Focus

During this cycle, we will be focusing on writing and encouraging children to apply their phonics knowledge to write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

Our phonics programme provides children with the strategies they need in order to read and write. With this in mind, it is important that children are in school every day and arrive on time ready to start lessons at 9am prompt.

Maths

The children will be developing their language of size, ordering items by length and height.

We will be looking at ‘flat’ 2D and ‘solid’ 3D shapes and using mathematical names to describe them.

Books

Some texts we will be covering this term include:

Reminders

  • Please ensure your child’s uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We are finding many jumpers/cardigans around the classroom with no names on them.
  • Snack money is 50p per week. Thank you to those who have paid for the full term. Your contributions help to pay for additional snacks and experiences for the children, such as, pancakes during our Shrove Tuesday celebrations.
  • Home reading books need to be in school every day. Please ensure you read with your child every night and sign the reading record so we know they have read with you. Home reading books are changed in school on a Thursday.

Spare Clothes Donations

We are running extremely low on spare clothes in school and would be very grateful for any donations.  If you have any old clothes, underwear or socks that would fit children in Nursery or Reception, please could you bring them into school?

Stay and Play Workshops

I will be running both a Maths and Reading workshop during this cycle and hope you can all make it.  The children love sharing their learning and this is a good way to see your child’s progress.  I will provide more details on dates during parents evening.
