Cycle 2
Teacher: Miss Wills
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Singh
We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other during Cycle 1. The children have settled into school well and become familiar with all of the rules and routines of the day.
The children have been taking part in short focused sessions on the carpet and will continue this now throughout the year. These sessions are: Phonics, Maths and Communication and Language. Our bear called George helps the children to remember the listening rules during these sessions.
Phonics: The childrenwill beexperiencing and learning to appreciate rhythm and rhyme and developing awareness of rhythm and rhyme in speech. They will also be learning to develop their understanding of alliteration.
Communication and Language: During these sessions the children will be reading and exploring the books Tanka Tanka Skunk and The Naughty Bus during this cycle.
Maths: The children have been learning to recognise numbers up to ten and will continue to practise this. They are also learning to count objects by placing them in a line and touching each object. We will continue to sing number songs and rhymes.
The children have enjoyed learning and practising lots of songs and rhymes, such as Incy Wincey Spider, The Wheels on the Bus and Five Currant Buns. We will continue to sings songs and rhymes during the year as they are soimportant in developing your child’s language and communication skills. Introducing children to a variety of nursery rhymes can help them understand and learn about different sounds. This is an important part of developing those early literacy skills.
Reading
Thank you to all of you who came to the Reading Meetingthat we held in October. We had some good feedback and we hope we were able to answer your questions. The children have now started to bring home the lilac coloured reading books. We hope you have been sharing these with your child on a regular basis and asking them lots of simple questions about the pictures.
Please remember to fill in their reading record book so that we know the children are sharing the book with you at home.
Christmas
We have started to learn the songs for our Christmas performance of ‘Snowman at Sunset’. We look forward to seeing lots of you there to support the children when we perform it in December.
Things to remember:
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a bag of spare clothes with them in school at all times, including underwear and socks. It is very important that we are able to change your child and make them comfortable if any toileting accidents occur or if they get wet from water play. We explore the outdoors in all weathers so children need to be dressed appropriately.
All children require a pair of wellies in school. The children will really enjoy outdoor water play and accessing the newly replenished sandpit.
Snack Money
We ask that the children bring in a voluntary contribution of 50p every week, on a Monday, to contribute towards the cost of providing the children with a range of healthy snacks.
Uniform
Children must be in correct school uniform at all times. This includes appropriate footwear. Please ensure your child’s uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Focus child
We have three focus children per class, per week. We record additional information on paper to be kept in the child’s folder in the classroom. Parents can contribute to this by bringing in or emailing photos to the Early Years email address. Examples of photos might be: A trip to the park, visiting family, swimming lessons. The photos may be used as prompts for your child to share news with the class or to write about. You will receive a letter when your child is selected as the focus child.
