Cycle 2

We have had a lovely first half term and the children have been working so hard.

During cycle 2, in English, we will be reading two different stories. The first one will be How to Find Gold and the second will be The Dark. Both of which I’m sure the children will enjoy.

In Maths, we will be covering fractions, shape, measure and statistics. We will also recap on the work we have done on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We have got lots of exciting topics coming up over this cycle. They are:

  • Science- Seasonal Change
  • History- Toys and Games
  • T.- Sensational Salads
  • Computing- Computer Art and Presentation Skills
  • RE- How and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?

Homework will continue to be sent home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure your child tries their best with this homework and do offer guidance and support when needed, whilst still allowing your child to work out answers for themselves. In your child’s homework folder there is a list of year 1 spellings. We are working hard on making sure spelling is of a high standard in year 2, so please ensure your child practises these on a regular basis, both spelling and writing in sentences, as well as the weekly year 2 spellings that are sent home.

Please try and read with your child every day and record this in his/her reading record. It is important to also question your child’s understanding of what they have read.  Books will be changed every Monday.

PE continues to be on Monday and Friday and your child must be in full kit every week. PE kit is; black shorts, white polo shirt and black pumps. The Friday lesson will be outdoors, therefore if you wish (as the weather changes) your child can wear black tracksuit bottoms/jacket and trainers.

Children in year 2 can buy a drink and snack from the snack trolley during morning playtime.  They can choose from orange or apple juice and a variety of fruit. Both drinks and fruit are 20p each. If you would like to pay for the week, please put the money in a named envelope and hand it in at the beginning of the week. Alternatively, your child can bring in 20p per day.

To ensure the best possible learning in school your child needs to arrive on time (8.50am)and attend school every day. Please inform school immediately of the reason for any pupil absence.

If you have any questions please speak to myself or Mrs. Jackson.
