Cycle 3

Dear Parents/ Careers,

Welcome back to a brand new half term at Brentnall! Year 2 are working very hard in the run up to our SATs tests! We are excited to prove how much we have learnt over the year so far!

As it is such an important time for Year 2, we all know the importance of being in school on time every day to maximise our learning. As the doors open each day at 8.50am, children are greeted with a different anthem to get them awake and ready for the day ahead. On Fridays, we can let our hair loose with our Friday Anthem, which can include anything from the conga to the limbo! As a team, we are currently the attendance champions of the school! We are aiming to win the trophy every week and we appreciate your support to enable this to happen.

Mr. Thompson has recently sent out a letter regarding uniform. Please see this letter if you are unsure of the correct uniform attire. Children should also be practising tying shoe laces and buttoning up their own shirts.

Weekly reminders:

Monday Reading books changed

Reading books and logs to be taken home, filled in and brought back everyday.

Tuesday PE – indoor
Wednesday Homework to be handed in

Thursday PE – outdoor
Friday Spelling test/ Times Table Challenge

Homework to be given out

The homework sent home each week is vital to your child’s learning as they need to apply their skills that they have learnt during the week. Please encourage your child to complete their homework carefully and neatly, ensuring that they work independently. Then sit with them to look back at their work to check it.

Homework will be given on a Friday:

  • Spellings – to be practised each week, for our spelling test.
  • Lined paper – to write a sentence for each spelling word
  • Times table practise – to be practised each week for the Times Table Challenge.
  • Maths homework – to be completed weekly.

Homework needs to come back to school on a Wednesday.

If your child needs extra support with the homework or fails to return it to school they will be asked to complete this during Thursday lunchtime.

Reading is such an important skill in your child’s development and we are aiming to listen to children read every day. Children should read to you every night to develop their confidence, fluency and expression. Please add a small comment in their reading record to say how they have read. It is important to question your child’s understanding of what they have read. Pupils who read regularly at home tend to make the most significant progress.

Reading books need to come to school every daywith a small comment in the reading records. Reading books will be changed every Monday morning.

PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We suggest that your child brings their kit in at the beginning of term and leaves it in school until the end of term to ensure that they do not forget it. Please refer back to the uniform letter to see the correct PE attire.

Times Tables:

It is expected that by the end of Year 2 pupils know, recite and understand the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. We will cover this in class but please practise at home as well. The children know some songs to practise.

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
