Key Stage 2 data
At the end of Key Stage 2 children are assessed against the Key Stage 2 Curriculum they have been taught in Years 3-6. Children take tests in Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) and Mathematics. Their writing is assessed based on teacher assessments from a range of pieces of writing. Historically, up until 2015 children were assessed in levels.
The previous National Curriculum levels have been removed and in their place is a national ‘expected standard’ for Year 6 children to meet. This standard is met by achieving at least 100 on a scaled score in reading; spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG); and mathematics in the end of key stage tests.
Since the new curriculum is only in its second academic year, these standards have been additionally challenging for the first cohort of pupils to be assessed under the new system and this is reflected in the results nationally.
The skills of literacy and numeracy are essential however, we also remain determined not to neglect those activities that give our school its distinct international and allow our children to develop into respectful, successful leaners who can play a positive part in society as they grow older.
