Welcome to Sapphire Class

Welcome back to school and welcome to Sapphire Year 2. I hope you have all had a relaxing Summer holiday. Everyone is looking very smart, so please remember to write your child’s NAME in allitems of clothing and then we can make sure everyone is always in their full school uniform.

In English we will start the year reading a story called Beegu, where we will do lots of talking around the book and write our own story and character profile.

In Maths we will be covering place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We have got lots of exciting topics coming up over the first learning cycle. They are:

  • Science- Animals including humans
  • Geography- My School and Local Area
  • Art- LS Lowry
  • Computing-Using the Internet
  • RE- What does it mean to belong to a faith community?

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure your child tries their best with this homework and do offer guidance and support when needed, whilst still allowing your child to work out answers for themselves.

Please try and read with your child every day and record this in his/her reading record. It is important to also question your child’s understanding of what they have read.  Books will be changed every Monday.

PE is on Monday and Friday and your child must be in full kit every week. PE kit is; black shorts, white polo shirt and black pumps. The Friday lesson will be outdoors, therefore if you wish (as the weather changes) your child can wear black tracksuit bottoms/jacket and trainers.

Children in Year 2can buy a drink and snack from the snack trolley during morning playtime. They can choose from orange or apple juice and a variety of fruit. Both drinks and fruit are 20p each. If you would like to pay for the week, please put the money in a named envelope and hand it in at the beginning of the week. Alternatively, your child can bring in 20p per day.

To ensure the best possible learning in school your child needs to arrive on time (8.50am)and attend school every day. Please inform school immediately of the reason for any pupil absence.

If you have any questions please speak to myself or Mrs. Jackson.

I look forward to an exciting term ahead.

Miss Froggatt
